Team trophies
Times a Hyde team finished in the overall top 6 of a tournament.
Regionals & State
The tournaments that count. Santa Clara County Regional every year, and NorCal State whenever Hyde qualified.
First-place finishes
Eight times a Hyde team won a scored event outright, plus one win in a trial event (dashed).
Every tournament
Each Hyde team's overall place and the field size. Regionals and State are outlined in gold.
Every Hyde result on Duosmium since 2022: 23 tournaments, 63 team entries and 1,545 event places. Fields range from 24 to 256 teams, so most comparisons below use the share of the field a team beat: (teams β place) Γ· (teams β 1). 100% is first place.
What changed
The program climbed every season but one. The top team went from beating about half the field (2021β22) to the top 10% in 2025β26, and the regional place went 12th β 10th β 4th β 6th β 5th while the field grew from 24 to 45 teams.
It got deeper, not just stronger at the top. In 2021β22 Hyde's second team beat 35% of the regional field; by 2025β26 its second team (Blue) averaged about 73% across eight tournaments and placed 11th of 45 at regionals, better than the 2021β22 top team.
2025β26 had a wider gap between Gold and everyone else. Gold beat 88% of fields on average; Blue was 15 points behind, and White and Green were around 60%. At Boyceville Gold was 13th and Blue 69th.
The long-running events mostly improved. Of the 11 events held in three or more seasons, Codebusters, Dynamic Planet and Experimental Design are the most consistent strengths, each finishing at or near the team's overall place. Anatomy and Physiology and Meteorology have trailed it most, though both rose in 2025β26 (Anatomy 2nd at State).
Building events are uneven. Wheeled Vehicle (1st at 2024 Mira Loma) and Can't Judge a Powder (1st at 2024 State) were standouts; Flight, Hovercraft and Optics were among the weakest results relative to the team.
Disease Detectives was a strength, then slipped relative to the team. In 2023β24 and 2024β25 Gold's DD place matched or beat its overall place almost every time (2nd at the 2025 regional). In 2025β26 DD trailed Gold's overall place at all nine tournaments (12th at State while the team was 5th).
Overall standing, every tournament
Each dot is one Hyde team at one tournament. Higher is better. Hover a dot for the details.
Online "satellite" invitationals (BirdSO, Rickards, STEMBoost, Boyceville) draw 117β256 teams from across the country, so a mid-pack place there can still beat most of the field.
The same tournaments, year over year
Tournaments Hyde attended in more than one season give the cleanest comparison. Places shown as place / teams.
No Hyde result appears at NorCal State in 2022, 2023 or 2025. In 2025 Gold placed 6th at regionals.
Depth: how close the second team is
Average share of the field beaten, per season, at tournaments where Hyde sent two or more teams.
Event strengths over time
Top team's average share of the field beaten in each event that ran for three or more of these seasons. Darker is better; blank means the event wasn't held that season.
Codebusters (33% β 88%), Experimental Design (56% β 86%) and Meteorology (22% β 69%) show the steadiest gains. Write It Do It swung from 44% to 84%.
2025β26: Gold's events, best to weakest
Average share of the field beaten across the season (up to 9 tournaments; fewer for events some tournaments didn't run).
Strongest: Potions and Poisons (2nd at State), Circuit Lab (2nd), Dynamic Planet (2nd), Machines (3rd). Weakest: Hovercraft, Entomology, Water Quality and Meteorology.
Every event, 2021β22 to 2025β26
All 48 events Hyde's top team (Gold, or the only team) competed in. "Vs team" compares each event with the same team's overall place at the same tournament: a positive number means the event finished higher in the field than the team did. Because a team's overall place is built from all its events, most events land below it, so read the column as a ranking of relative strengths. Click a column to sort, or a row to chart that event.
